MobiKwik is one of India’s longer running digital wallets. It started in 2009 as a way to recharge mobile phones and grew into a payments app with UPI, a pay later product and investment features.
For a while, a handful of offshore casinos aimed at Indian players listed it in their cashiers. That world changed in 2025, when India banned real money online games outright and told banks and payment systems not to process them.
Below are the casinos that were tagged with MobiKwik, followed by a look at the company, what the 2025 law means for anyone using an Indian wallet, and what players outside India should know.

Can you use MobiKwik at online casinos?
Not legally from India. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act 2025 bans online money games and prohibits banks and payment systems from processing transactions for them, which covers Indian wallets like MobiKwik. MobiKwik also requires an Indian mobile number and KYC, so it is of little use to players elsewhere.
Bipin Preet Singh and Upasana Taku founded MobiKwik in April 2009, working out of a rented office in Delhi before the company settled in Gurugram. The first product was simple: top up your prepaid phone balance online. A wallet followed, then UPI payments, then ZIP, a buy now pay later line, and a range of loans and investment products.
In December 2024 the company listed on the NSE and BSE after an IPO that raised around 572 crore rupees. Few Indian fintechs that started as recharge sites made that journey.
Everything runs on an Indian phone number and Indian KYC, which already tells you who the service is built for.
India’s new online gaming act, which cleared both houses of Parliament in August 2025, bans online money games, whether they are based on skill, chance or both, and that covers poker, rummy, sports betting and casino games alike. Advertising them is banned too.
The part that matters for a wallet page is the payment clause. Banks and payment apps are barred from handling transactions tied to these games, and facilitating them carries penalties of up to three years in prison and fines of up to one crore rupees. A licensed Indian wallet sits right in the middle of what that rule covers.
So whatever an old cashier page says, MobiKwik is not a route into real money casino play from India any more.
In 2021 hackers claimed to hold KYC records for close to 100 million MobiKwik users, and data said to come from the company appeared online. MobiKwik brought in outside auditors to investigate.
It is a reminder to keep any wallet locked down with a strong PIN and two factor login, and never to share one time passwords, whichever app you use.
Payment icons on gambling sites and comparison pages tend to linger for years after they stop working. A MobiKwik badge today usually means nobody has updated the cashier, not that deposits from India are possible or lawful. If a site actively encourages Indian players to pay through a local wallet, that is a reason to walk away rather than a convenience.
Someone with an Indian number living elsewhere may still have the app, but casinos licensed in other countries expect payments from accounts held where you live. Use a local bank card or bank transfer instead.
Without an Indian phone number and KYC, you cannot open a MobiKwik wallet at all, so it is simply not an option.
| App | Main use today | Casino payments from India |
|---|---|---|
| MobiKwik | Wallet, UPI, pay later | Not permitted since 2025 |
| Paytm | UPI and merchant payments | Not permitted since 2025 |
| PhonePe | UPI payments | Not permitted since 2025 |

MobiKwik is a capable everyday payments app and a genuine Indian fintech success story. As a casino deposit method it has run out of road, because the law now forbids exactly that use from India. If you are outside India and play at a casino licensed where you live, choose a payment method from your own country and keep your gambling inside a regulated market.

Yes. It listed on the NSE and BSE in December 2024.
