Albanian Language Online Casinos

Albanian is spoken by around seven and a half million people, yet just a handful of the casinos still open in our database have it. That sounds odd until you look at the two countries where Albanian is the main language. Albania has banned online gambling since January 2019, and Kosovo shut down every game of chance a few months later.

So we will say it straight. If you live in Albania or Kosovo, online casinos are not legal for you, and nothing on this page is a way around that. What follows is for Albanian speakers in North Macedonia, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Greece and wherever else a local licence makes play legal.

The list underneath holds every casino in our database with an Albanian version, and it looks identical from Tetovo, Zurich or Bari. A place there is no promise that a casino accepts players from your country, so look up its restricted countries and the licensing law at home first.

Is it legal to play at an Albanian language online casino?

Only if the country you live in allows it. In Albania online casino games have been banned since 1 January 2019, and the 2024 reopening covers online sports betting alone. Kosovo has prohibited all games of chance since May 2019. Albanian speakers in Switzerland, Italy, Germany or Greece fall under those countries' licensing rules, and an Albanian translation tells you nothing about a licence.

Shqip From Tirana to Prishtina, Skopje and Zurich

Albanian is the official language of Albania and Kosovo. In North Macedonia, where roughly a quarter of the population is Albanian, it became an official language at national level on 15 January 2019. Montenegro has it in official use too, above all around Ulcinj.

Two dialect groups meet roughly at the Shkumbin river in central Albania. Gheg runs north of it, Kosovo and most of North Macedonia’s Albanians included, and Tosk south. The written standard rests on Tosk, and the 1972 Orthography Congress made it the shared literary language for Albania and Kosovo. A player in Prishtina reads it easily but speaks something else at home.

The Arbëreshë of southern Italy, about half a million people, keep an archaic Tosk dialect, and Arvanites in Greece have their own. Migration added far more speakers: in 2022, 3.4 percent of Swiss residents gave Albanian as a main language, the fifth most common in the country according to the Federal Statistical Office.

Albania Closed the Bastore and Has Not Reopened Casinos

When parliament voted unanimously to shut the sector down in October 2018, Albania had around 4,000 betting shops, and the ban under Law 75/2018 took effect on 1 January 2019.

What survived the 2019 shutdown

Betting shops, slot halls and every online gambling site closed, the one licensed online operator included. The national lottery stayed, and so did casino gaming in a few five-star hotels in tourist zones. Online casino play is illegal for anyone in Albania, whatever an offshore site in Albanian claims.

Law 18/2024 brings back sportsbooks, not slots

On 15 February 2024 parliament amended the Gambling Act to allow online sports betting again, and Council of Ministers Decision No. 194 of 26 March 2026 set the rules for up to ten national licences. Players will register with a national ID card, cash betting is banned and money must move through Albanian banks or licensed payment firms. By August 2026 the Gambling Supervisory Authority, the AMLF, had not opened the competition, and online casino games still have no licensing route at all.

Kosovo Banned Every Game of Chance in 2019

Kosovo went further. Two killings in gambling venues in March 2019 brought people onto the streets, and the Assembly answered with Law No. 06/L-155 on the Prohibition of Games of Chance. Article 1 closes every game of chance in the territory, article 2 repeals the old licensing law, and the whole thing took effect in May 2019.

Over 400 betting shops, slot outlets and bingo halls had to shut, and even the Kosovo Lottery lost its legal footing. No expiry date was written in, so the ban lasts until a replacement law passes, and none had by mid 2026.

That settles it for anyone in Prishtina or Prizren. No licence exists for an online casino to hold, so do not play from Kosovo, and treat this page as reading for later if you move.

Five Albanian Speaking Markets and Their Rules

One language, five rulebooks.

Where you live Online casino games Currency at the cashier
Albania Banned since 2019; only online sports betting is being relicensed Lek
Kosovo All games of chance prohibited since May 2019 Euro
North Macedonia Licensed, with online games moving to a state owned company Denar
Montenegro Local licences only; foreign betting sites banned since 2024 Euro
Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Greece Local licence required Francs or euros

North Macedonia is the one home market that licenses gambling, and it is mid rebuild. Its new Act on Games of Chance and Entertainment Games has applied since 14 July 2026, with licences issued by the finance ministry. Electronic and online games of chance are now a state right, run through a fully state owned company that must organise them itself from 1 January 2027. Players get one account each, payouts within five working days and payments via domestic banks only. An offshore lobby in Albanian sits outside all of that.

Where Albanian Speakers Can Play Legally

Most readers this page can actually help live in Western Europe, where the local licence decides everything.

Switzerland, where Albanian is the fifth language

The Money Gaming Act, in force since 1 January 2019, reserves online games for Swiss land-based casinos whose platform the Federal Gaming Board has approved, and unlicensed domains get blocked. See Swiss licensed casinos for who qualifies. Few speak Albanian, but a regulator stands behind them.

Italy, Germany and Greece

In Italy only ADM concessionaires may serve you, and the market was relicensed in November 2025; our Italian language guide explains the reform. Germany’s GGL licenses slots and poker, and the German language guide covers its rules. Greece licenses sites on .gr addresses through the Hellenic Gaming Commission. A licensed site in Italian or German beats an unlicensed one in shqip every time.

Lek Balances Tell You Who the Site Is For

Look at the currency before you look at the bonus. An Albanian speaker in Zurich lives on francs, one in Bari or Munich on euros. A casino that opens your account in lek, ALL, was built for players inside Albania, the one place where its online casino may not legally operate.

Should lek figures show up, divide. The Bank of Albania’s official rate on 23 October 2026 was ALL 90.74 per euro, which turns an ALL 1,000 deposit floor into about EUR 11 and an ALL 10,000 payout limit into roughly EUR 110. Kosovo and Montenegro pay in euros, so any exchange fee there is pure margin.

Then test the chat before depositing. Ask, in Albanian, how long a tërheqje to your card takes. Fluent standard shqip is a good sign; English, or Albanian that reads like a translation tool, previews the day a withdrawal gets stuck.

Ë, Ç and Other Clues in an Albanian Translation

Albanian uses the Latin alphabet with two extra letters, ë and ç, plus digraphs such as dh, gj, sh, th and xh. Plenty of Albanians drop the dots when texting, but a casino has no such excuse.

  • Missing letters in the terms. Bonus rules writing “e” for ë and “c” for ç throughout were never proofread by a native.
  • The cashier words. A deposit is a depozitë and a withdrawal a tërheqje. If the lobby is in Albanian but the cashier falls back to English, the translation budget ran out where your money starts.
  • Free spins and winnings. Look for rrotullime falas and fitime, with the cap on spin winnings stated in Albanian too.
  • Gheg slipping into the standard. A Kosovan writer may use the Gheg infinitive, as in me punue, where standard Albanian writes për të punuar. Fine in chat, a little careless in the terms.

Finally, see whether the general terms, kushtet e përgjithshme, exist in Albanian at all. Often they stop at English.

Our Advice to an Albanian Speaking Player

Living in Albania or Kosovo, stay away from online casinos. Albania has no online casino licence, its coming sportsbook licences exclude slots and tables, and Kosovo bans every game of chance outright.

In North Macedonia, stay with what the Ministry of Finance has licensed. In Switzerland, Italy, Germany or Greece, pick a site with the local licence first and treat Albanian as a pleasant extra.

Our list records who bothered to translate into shqip, nothing more. Compare a casino’s banned countries with your address, then put its Albanian through the tests above.

Albanian Language Casinos FAQ

Is online gambling legal in Albania?

No, not for casino games. Law 75/2018 closed betting shops, slot halls and all online gambling from 1 January 2019, leaving the national lottery and casinos in a few five-star hotels. Law 18/2024 allows online sports betting again under up to ten licences, but online casino games still have no licensing framework.

When will licensed online betting start in Albania?

No date has been set. Decision No. 194 of 26 March 2026 laid down the rules for up to ten national online sportsbook licences, and the implementing regulations were completed in mid 2026. As of August 2026 the Gambling Supervisory Authority had not opened the licensing competition, so no operator holds an Albanian online licence yet.

Can people in Kosovo play at online casinos?

No. Law No. 06/L-155, in force since May 2019, prohibits all games of chance in Kosovo and repealed the old licensing law, so there is no Kosovan licence any casino could hold. The ban has no end date and remains until the Assembly passes a new law. We do not recommend playing from Kosovo.

Is online gambling legal in North Macedonia?

Yes, under licences from the Ministry of Finance. A new Act on Games of Chance and Entertainment Games has applied since 14 July 2026. It gives the state, through a fully owned company, the right to run electronic and online games of chance from 1 January 2027, and requires payments through banks in North Macedonia.

Which Albanian dialect do casino sites use?

Proper sites use standard Albanian, which is based on the Tosk dialect and was fixed for Albania and Kosovo at the 1972 Orthography Congress. Speakers of Gheg, in Kosovo, North Macedonia and northern Albania, read it without trouble. Gheg forms in chat are normal, but bonus terms should be written in the standard.

How do I convert lek amounts at a casino into euros?

Divide by the current rate. The Bank of Albania’s official rate was ALL 90.74 to the euro on 23 October 2026, so ALL 1,000 is about EUR 11 and ALL 10,000 roughly EUR 110. Keep in mind that a casino offering lek balances is aimed at Albania, where its online casino is not legal.
