Before Pix, the boleto bancário was how Brazil paid for almost everything online. You got a bank slip with a barcode, paid it in your banking app, at a lottery shop or at the bank, and a day or so later the merchant saw the money.
Some casinos still offer boleto, and it has one real advantage: you can pay it in cash without a bank account. But it is slow, it only works for deposits, and Brazil’s licensed market has moved firmly to Pix.
Below are the casinos we have checked that still list boleto, and an honest guide to when it makes sense and when Pix is simply the better choice.

Can you deposit at an online casino with boleto?
Yes, some international casinos still accept boleto bancário. The cashier generates a bank slip that you pay in your banking app, at a lottery shop or at a bank. The deposit is credited once the payment clears, which can take up to three business days. Boleto cannot be used for withdrawals.
Anyone who has lived in Brazil has paid a boleto bancário. It is a bank slip, regulated within Brazil’s central bank system, that shows the amount, a due date and a long row of barcode digits identifying who gets paid.
What kept it alive for decades is how many places accept it. You can scan the barcode in a banking app, pay at a branch or ATM, hand it over at a lottery shop or settle it at plenty of supermarkets. Bills, online shopping, school fees: for years the boleto handled a huge share of everyday payments.
That lottery shop option is the real point for casino players. Because a boleto can be paid in cash, it opened up online payments to people with no bank account and no card, and that is still its one genuine advantage.
A boleto deposit comes in two halves. The casino handles the first, and the second is up to you.
Choose boleto in the cashier and enter the amount. Expect to be asked for your CPF, since most payment partners require it, and then the slip appears: either a PDF you can download or a string of barcode digits to copy.
Now pay it, either by scanning it with your bank’s app or by taking it to a lottery shop. Keep the payment receipt safe. If the deposit fails to appear, it is your proof that you paid.
Patience is the price of boleto. Before the casino sees a cent, the payment must work its way through Brazil’s clearing process, and that takes anywhere between one and three working days.
Timing makes a real difference. A slip settled in the app on a weekday morning tends to clear fastest. Pay late on a Friday and it can easily sit there until the following week.
Watch the due date as well. Casino slips often expire just a day or two after they are issued, and a payment made after that can be refused.
So never dig out an old slip. Generate a fresh one every time.
Money only moves one way with a boleto: from you to the merchant. Your winnings need another route, and at casinos serving Brazil these are the usual ones:
Whichever you pick, the casino will want to confirm who you are and check your CPF ahead of your first cashout. Getting that done right after you sign up saves days of waiting later.
Paying a boleto through your banking app normally costs nothing. A few casinos or their payment partners do add a small fee for issuing the slip, so glance at the cashier before you confirm.
Limits are the bigger issue. Minimum deposits are usually modest, but the maximum per slip is often far lower than what Pix allows, so a large deposit may mean paying several slips. If you pay in cash, the lottery shop’s own limit per payment can cap you further.
For small, occasional deposits none of this matters much. It starts to hurt when you want to move a bigger amount in one go.
Pix arrived in November 2020, and for anything that needs to be quick most Brazilians dropped the boleto almost immediately. Side by side, it is easy to see why:
| Boleto | Pix | |
|---|---|---|
| Deposit speed | One to three business days | Seconds, around the clock |
| Payouts | Not possible | Yes |
| Cost for you | Usually free in a banking app | Free for individuals |
| Licensed .bet.br casinos | Not permitted | Permitted |
That last row matters most. Since January 2025, operators licensed on .bet.br must take payments electronically, via Pix, TED or debit card, and slips like the boleto are excluded. Boleto has therefore retreated to international casinos.
A boleto deposit normally counts towards the welcome offer. The problem is the clock.
If an offer needs a bonus code, type it into the cashier before you generate the slip. Then look at how long the deal stays open. A welcome deal with a 48 hour window from signup can quietly run out before your boleto has even cleared.
The playthrough requirement, the maximum stake per spin during the bonus and the bonus lifetime all kick in as soon as the deposit is credited. Read them first, not halfway through a session.
Unless paying in cash is the whole point for you, something else will almost certainly suit you better.
Boleto still earns a place for one group: players who want to walk into a lottery shop and pay with notes. For everyone else it is mostly a leftover from before Pix.
Some international casinos do. Licensed Brazilian .bet.br sites work with electronic transfers such as Pix instead.
One to three business days, depending on when and where you pay the slip.
No. Boleto only works for deposits. Casinos usually pay Brazilian players by Pix.
Yes, at lottery shops and other payment points, which is boleto’s main advantage.
The payment may be refused. Always generate a new slip in the cashier.
For most players yes. Pix is instant, free for individuals and works for payouts.
