Armenian holds a small corner of the casino world. It has an alphabet of its own, two written standards that spell the same words differently, and a home market of under three million people that has spent four years closing its doors to foreign operators.
So this guide is mostly for Armenians living somewhere else. If you live in Armenia, the law allows online play only at sites licensed there and running on a .am domain, and joining a foreign casino is not permitted. For the diaspora in Russia, France or the United States, the host country sets the rules.
Further down is the complete set of casinos we track with an Armenian version, identical no matter which country you load this page in. Appearing there is no sign that a site is allowed to serve you, so read the licensing rules of your own country first.

It depends on where you live, not on the language. Residents of Armenia may only play at sites with an Armenian licence that run on a .am domain, must be at least 21, and are not permitted to use casinos organised abroad. Armenians in other countries follow the rules there, so the right casino is the one licensed where you live, whatever its language menu says.

Mesrop Mashtots, a monk and scholar, created the Armenian alphabet around 405. It began with 36 letters, picked up օ and ֆ in the Middle Ages, and the spelling reform of the 1920s made the ligature և a letter of its own. Armenians call the language Hayeren (Հայերեն), and they notice fast whether a site respects it.
For a casino this is a technical job before it is a translation job. The script has been in Unicode since 1991, but the theme still needs a font that carries it and the right punctuation: Armenian closes a sentence with the verjaket (։), and its question sign (՞) sits over a vowel inside the word being asked about.
The 2022 census counted about 2.93 million residents in Armenia, while most estimates put Armenians abroad well above that, with big communities in Russia, the United States and France. A small home market and a large, scattered diaspora explain almost everything about which casinos bother with Armenian.
There is no single written Armenian, so an operator has to pick one.
Eastern Armenian is the official language of Armenia, and schools there teach the orthography reformed between 1922 and 1924. One twist: the Eastern Armenian speakers of Iran never accepted that reform and still write the classical way.
Western Armenian grew out of the Armenian communities of the Ottoman Empire and now lives mostly in Lebanon, Syria, France and the United States, where Los Angeles holds the largest concentration of speakers. It is not official anywhere, UNESCO counts it as endangered, and it keeps the classical Mashtots spelling. Even the sounds shift: water is jur in Yerevan and chur in Beirut.
A single Armenian option means one of the two was chosen, usually visible within a couple of headings. Western readers can follow Eastern text fine. It just never feels like home.
Armenia is a licensed market, not a grey one. The Law on the Regulation of Gambling Activities was adopted in June 2024 and has applied since 1 January 2025. The State Revenue Committee supervises the sector, and an online casino serving Armenia needs an Armenian licence and a .am domain.
The other half of the rule matters more here. Games organised abroad may not be offered on Armenian territory, and the government ordered foreign gambling sites blocked in October 2024. If you live in Armenia, no international casino with an Armenian translation is a legal choice, however polished it looks. We do not recommend them, and we will not explain how to reach them.
Licensed play starts at 21 for casino games and betting, 18 for lotteries, and players are identified through their own bank card.
Bets grew from about AMD 0.2 trillion in 2017 to roughly AMD 7.4 trillion in 2025 (around EUR 18 billion), and lawmakers answered with one package after another.
| When | What changed | What players notice |
|---|---|---|
| March 2022 | Gambling ads limited to hotels with four stars or more, border checkpoints and gambling venues | Casino ads largely gone from Armenian media |
| January 2025 | New gambling law in force with the .am domain rule | No legal route in for foreign brands |
| April and July 2025 | Online casino fee of AMD 350 million (about EUR 860,000) above turnover thresholds, then a 10 percent turnover tax | Serving Armenia legally got far dearer |
| June 2026 | Five year self exclusion button; income cap and barred groups from 1 January 2027 | One click shuts you out of licensed online play |
| February 2027 | Telecom blocking of unlicensed sites, according to the State Revenue Committee | Offshore lobbies cut off at network level |
The June amendments also cap online gambling at 20 percent of declared annual income and bar people on social benefits, people living mainly on a state pension, people in bankruptcy and participants in state funded subsidy programmes.
Fewer than ten open casinos in our database run an Armenian version, just a handful. Odd at first, since Armenian speakers are not rare. From an operator’s chair it adds up.
The obvious market is closed to anyone without a local licence that now costs hundreds of millions of dram plus a turnover tax. A foreign brand adding Armenian without one signals interest in exactly the players the regulator wants away from offshore sites, and the diaspora mostly reads its host language anyway: French in Marseille, Russian in Moscow, English in Los Angeles.
So when Armenian turns up on an international site, treat it as a courtesy, not proof the casino was built for you. Check the currency list too. An Armenian lobby that only takes euro or dollars tells you who it really expects.
Outside Armenia, your passport and your mother tongue are irrelevant to the law. Your address is what counts.
Russia hosts one of the largest Armenian communities anywhere, and online casinos are illegal there. Roskomnadzor blocks foreign casino sites, and an Armenian translation changes nothing. Living in Russia, our advice is simply not to play; the Russian language casinos guide explains the ban.
The ANJ regulates the French online market, which opened to betting on sport and horses plus poker while leaving slots and table games outside it. In the United States only seven states run legal online casinos: New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia, Delaware, Connecticut and Rhode Island. California, with its large Western Armenian community, is not among them. Armenians in Lebanon, Syria or elsewhere should read local law before any lobby.
No linguistics degree needed. Shortcuts show up in the same few places:
In Armenia and over 21? Stay with a .am licensed site, use the five year self exclusion button if you ever need it, and expect stricter rules from January 2027. Under 21, or in one of the barred groups from 2027, means no online casino at all.
Outside Armenia, the licence register of the country you live in comes first, and the language menu second. A locally licensed site in the local language beats an unlicensed one in perfect Hayeren, every time. Western Armenian readers should be ready for Yerevan spelling, and anyone curious how neighbouring Georgia handled a similar crackdown can compare our Georgian language casinos guide.
No. Armenian law only allows online gambling at operators licensed in Armenia and running on a .am domain, and games organised abroad may not be offered on Armenian territory. The government ordered foreign gambling sites to be blocked in October 2024, and the State Revenue Committee says telecom blocking of unlicensed sites starts in February 2027.
It is 21 for casino games and betting at licensed Armenian sites, and 18 for lotteries. From 1 January 2027 further groups are barred from online play: people on social benefits, people whose main income is a state pension, people in bankruptcy proceedings and participants in subsidy programmes funded by the state budget.
Under amendments adopted in June 2026, licensed online casinos must show a clearly visible self exclusion button. Using it bars you from online gambling for five years with no early return, on other licensed platforms as well, and the block renews automatically for another five years unless you apply to lift it shortly before it ends.
Check before you assume. Eastern Armenian, in the spelling reformed in the 1920s, is the official standard in Armenia. Western Armenian, used in Lebanon, France and the United States, keeps the classical spelling and some different sounds. If the language menu just says Armenian, read a few headings to see which form you are getting.
Not at a locally licensed online casino. The ANJ in France licenses sports betting, horse racing and poker, but not online casino games. California has no legal real money online casinos, and only seven US states do. Armenians in France who want a legal option should look at licensed poker or betting instead.
Because we show all open casinos we track that offer Armenian, with no filtering by your location. Inclusion is not permission: a casino may still refuse your country or be unlicensed where you are. Open its terms, find the list of restricted countries and compare it with your own country’s licensing rules first.
Armenian sits among all the languages we review below, so switch over if you also play in Russian, French or English.
