Slovak Language Online Casinos

Slovak is one of the rarer languages in a casino lobby. About five million people speak it as their mother tongue, almost all of them in Slovakia, and most of them read Czech so easily that plenty of operators never bother with a Slovak version at all.

That makes the ones that do worth a closer look. Slovakia has licensed private online casinos since 2019, blacklists the sites that skip the licence, can have their payments stopped by a court, and runs on the euro, so a well built Slovak site has every reason to feel completely local.

The list below shows every casino in our database with a Slovak language version, whichever country you open this page from. Being listed tells you nothing about whether a casino may take players where you live, so check the licence rules for your own country before you sign up.

Are there online casinos available in Slovak?

Yes, though fewer than you might expect, because many operators offer Czech instead. If you live in Slovakia, choose a casino licensed by ÚRHH under Act No. 30/2019 Coll.: those sites must keep out players on the RVO self exclusion register, while unlicensed ones can be blacklisted and blocked by court order. Slovak speakers abroad should follow the licence rules of the country they live in.

Slovak Barely Travels Beyond Its Own Borders

Slovak has about five million native speakers, and the overwhelming majority of them live in Slovakia itself. It is an official EU language, yet outside Slovakia it is official in just one more place, the Serbian province of Vojvodina.

Everywhere else it is a recognised minority language, in Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Austria, Romania and a handful of other countries, and you will hear it among the Slovaks who have settled in the UK and Ireland. None of those groups is big enough to justify a translator on its own.

So when a lobby offers Slovak, the realistic target is a player sitting in Bratislava, Žilina or Košice. And Slovakia is a regulated market, so a site aimed at its residents needs a Slovak licence.

Czech on the Menu, Slovak Nowhere to Be Seen

Our database lists around twenty open casinos with a Slovak version. Czech turns up noticeably more often, and the reason is linguistic before it is commercial.

Slovaks read Czech, Czechs find Slovak harder

In Czechoslovakia people understood each other without effort, and most Slovaks still do. The traffic is lopsided, though. Western Slovakia has long watched Czech television, and polls cited by a linguist at the Institute of the Czech Language found more Slovaks watching Czech TV than the other way round. Younger Czechs, raised with far less Slovak around them after the 1993 split, struggle more.

One translation, two countries

For an operator that asymmetry is a shortcut. Translate into Czech once and you reach Czech players and most Slovak ones in the same go. Cheap, yes. As localisation it falls short: a Czech page is another language, may show koruna balances, and carries terms drafted for Czech players. Treat it as a fallback you can read, not a site made for you.

The 2019 Act That Ended the Tipos Monopoly Online

Before 2019, online casino games for Slovak residents belonged to Tipos, the state owned lottery company. Act No. 30/2019 Coll. on gambling changed that from 1 March 2019. Companies seated in the EU or EEA can now apply for an online casino licence, while the state lottery stays with Tipos.

Licensing and supervision belong to the Úrad pre reguláciu hazardných hier, shortened to ÚRHH, in charge since 1 June 2019. The entry ticket is steep. A stand alone online casino licence costs EUR 3 million, and the operator must keep its gaming server on Slovak territory and give the office free online access to it.

Our guide to online casinos in Slovakia looks at the market itself. The point for a Slovak speaker is narrower: living in Slovakia, the licence that counts is an ÚRHH licence, and the law forbids offering you games without one, whatever language the site speaks.

Bratislava and Prague Do Not Share a Licence

So many Slovaks end up on Czech pages that it pays to see how little the two regimes share beyond vocabulary. A Czech permit does not cover a Slovak resident, and a Slovak licence does nothing for someone living in Czechia.

Self exclusion RVO kept by ÚRHH, minimum six months National register plus a 48 hour panic button
Cashier currency for residents Euro Czech koruna

Our page on Czech language casinos covers the right hand column in depth. A Slovak who has moved to Ostrava plays under that column, not the left one.

Blacklists, Court Orders and the RVO

Slovakia also goes after the sites that skip the licence.

From a ministry list in 2017 to court ordered blocks

The first blacklist appeared in July 2017, before the new act, when the Ministry of Finance named ten international brands, William Hill and Bet365 among them, for serving Slovak players unlicensed. Today ÚRHH keeps the list of unlicensed websites and can ask a court to order telecom operators to block them, or to bar payment providers from paying into an unlicensed operator’s account. The court has seven days to rule.

Putting yourself on the register of excluded persons

The RVO shuts you out of licensed gambling in Slovakia, both online and in gambling halls, for a minimum of six months. The form is on the ÚRHH website and needs an officially verified signature or a qualified electronic one. By the end of May 2025 just over 20,500 people had excluded themselves. It binds licensed operators only, so an offshore site will never see your entry. We will not explain how to dodge a block; a blacklisted site is your answer.

Euro Balances, Tax and Slovaks Living Abroad

Slovakia has used the euro since 1 January 2009, which quietly removes a classic casino annoyance: a Slovak site with your balance in EUR takes no conversion margin in either direction. If the cashier only offers koruna, you are looking at a Czech build with a Slovak coat of paint. Our euro casinos guide covers paying in and cashing out in EUR.

Winnings are less of a worry than in some neighbouring countries. The Slovak financial administration treats wins from games run under a Slovak permit as exempt from income tax, and puts comparable winnings from abroad under the same exemption. With a big win from a site licensed far from the EU, check with a tax adviser first.

Slovaks in London, Dublin or Budapest are a separate case. Your address, not your citizenship, decides the rules, so a Slovak in Britain falls under British gambling law, and a Slovak lobby changes nothing about that.

Telling Real Slovak From Czech or a Translation Engine

To outsiders the two languages look alike, which lets a lazy operator get away with a lot. A few checks expose it:

  • Letters that belong to Czech. Slovak has no ř, ě or ů. If one shows up in the cashier or bonus terms, someone pasted in Czech.
  • Letters that belong to Slovak. Genuine Slovak uses ä, ô, ĺ and ŕ, and its rhythmic rule gives you biely where Czech writes bílý. A Slovak site where these never appear deserves suspicion.
  • Everyday casino words. A withdrawal is a výber in Slovak and a výběr in Czech, yes is áno rather than ano, and a thank you after a deposit reads ďakujeme, not děkujeme.
  • Machine output. Stripped diacritics, English left in brackets, or general terms only in English mean nobody fluent read the page.

A page that mixes Czech and Slovak is the giveaway to watch for. It usually means a Czech version was cloned and half edited.

Which Slovak Lobby Deserves Your Deposit

Living in Slovakia, start with the licence, not the flag in the corner. An ÚRHH licensed operator gives you a regulator at home, an RVO connection that actually works, and a domain that will not go dark mid withdrawal because a court ordered it blocked.

If Czech reads easily for you, a Czech version works as a fallback for the terms, but it is not a Slovak localisation and says nothing about whether the site may serve Slovakia. Slovaks abroad should look up the rules where they live first, then use the checks above to find the casinos that went to the trouble of writing proper Slovak.

Slovak Language Casinos FAQ

Is online casino play legal in Slovakia?

Yes, at operators holding a licence from ÚRHH, the gambling regulation office. Act No. 30/2019 Coll. opened online casino games to licensed companies from the EU and EEA on 1 March 2019, ending the Tipos monopoly online. Unlicensed sites can be blacklisted, blocked by telecom operators on a court order and cut off from payments.

Why do so many casinos offer Czech but not Slovak?

Most Slovaks read Czech without trouble, so a single Czech translation reaches two countries. That is cheap for the operator, but a Czech page is not a Slovak localisation, and a Czech permit does not allow a casino to serve players who live in Slovakia.

How does the Slovak register of excluded persons work?

The RVO, run by ÚRHH, bars you from licensed gambling in Slovakia, online and in land based venues, for at least six months. You apply with a form from the ÚRHH website and an officially verified or qualified electronic signature. Unlicensed offshore sites are not connected to it.

Do Slovak residents pay tax on casino winnings?

According to the Slovak financial administration, winnings from games operated under a Slovak permit are exempt from income tax, and comparable winnings from abroad fall under the same exemption. For a large win, particularly from a site licensed outside the EU, confirm your position with a tax adviser.

Can I play in euro at Slovak language casinos?

Slovakia has used the euro since 2009, so a casino built for Slovak players should hold your balance in EUR, with no currency conversion on deposits or withdrawals. If the cashier only offers koruna, the site was most likely built for Czech players first.

How can I tell real Slovak from a Czech copy?

Look for letters Slovak does not use, such as ř, ě and ů, which give away pasted Czech. Real Slovak has ä, ô, ĺ and ŕ, writes výber for a withdrawal and áno for yes. Missing diacritics or English left inside the terms point to machine translation.
