Bulgarian Language Online Casinos

Bulgarian is a small language in casino lobbies. Only just under twenty of the open casinos we track bother with a Bulgarian version, which is thin next to Russian or Turkish, and the reason sits in Sofia: Bulgaria runs a licensed market and chases sites that serve it without a local licence.

That leaves two kinds of reader. One lives in Bulgaria and needs to know what the National Revenue Agency allows. The other is one of the hundreds of thousands of Bulgarians in Germany, Spain, the UK or Turkey who would simply rather read the bonus terms in their own alphabet.

Below is every casino in our database with a Bulgarian language version, shown the same way whatever country you open the page from. Being on it proves nothing about whether a casino may take you as a player, so look at the licence rules where you live before you register.

Can I play at an online casino in Bulgarian?

Yes, but the rules depend on where you live. In Bulgaria only operators licensed by the National Revenue Agency may offer online gambling, and unlicensed sites are suspended and blocked. Bulgarians living in Germany, Spain or the UK fall under the licensing rules of those countries instead. A Bulgarian translation on an international site is a convenience, never proof that the casino may accept you.

A Small Lobby Language With a Long Reach Abroad

Inside Bulgaria the language question is simple. Bulgarian is the official language, it is written in Cyrillic, and since Bulgaria joined the EU in 2007 Cyrillic has been one of the Union’s official alphabets. A casino aiming at Bulgarian players cannot get away with English or a Russian page and hope nobody minds.

Outside the country it gets more interesting. A Foreign Ministry report covered by Bulgarian National Radio put the number of Bulgarians living abroad at around 2.8 million, with the biggest groups in Turkey, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States and Spain.

Yet few casinos make the effort. A Bulgarian translation signals clearly whom a site wants as customers, and in Bulgaria that signal gets noticed.

Sofia Handed Gambling Supervision to the Tax Office

Bulgaria used to have a dedicated State Commission on Gambling. Parliament abolished it in 2020 and moved its powers to the National Revenue Agency, known locally as НАП. Licences the commission had already issued stayed valid, but from then on fees, reporting and supervision all went to the tax authority.

A Bulgarian licence, not a foreign one

Online gambling aimed at Bulgaria needs a licence from the NRA. A Maltese or Curaçao licence does not count for players who live in the country, however polished the Bulgarian translation looks. Licensed operators also have to check every new account against the NRA self exclusion list, and since 27 March 2025 the shortest exclusion a player can choose is one year instead of 30 days.

Suspended first, then blocked by court order

Enforcement runs in two steps. The NRA’s executive director issues a decision suspending an unlicensed site and publishes it on the agency’s website, giving the operator three days to stop. If the site still takes bets from Bulgaria, the case goes to court and the judge orders internet providers to cut access. By October 2024 the agency said it had stopped more than 2,500 gambling sites that year alone.

The 2024 Advertising Ban Changed What Players See

The change came fast. Parliament passed amendments to the Gambling Act on a fast track in April 2024, and from 18 May 2024 gambling ads are banned on radio, television, in print and in online media, websites included.

What survives is narrow: standalone billboards at least 300 metres from schools and playgrounds, branding on sports kit and venues, and sponsorship. Even those ads may only show the name, the trademark and results, plus a warning that gambling carries a risk of addiction.

The same package bars telecom providers from giving access to unlicensed sites and payment institutions from processing their money. So a Bulgarian language site pushing a flashy bonus in your feed is almost by definition not playing by Bulgarian rules.

Leva Are Gone, So the Cashier Should Show Euro

Bulgaria became the 21st member of the euro area on 1 January 2026. The conversion rate was fixed at 1.95583 leva to one euro, and after one month of dual circulation the euro became the only legal tender on 1 February 2026. A casino that is genuinely kept up to date for Bulgarian players should therefore run its cashier in euro now.

That gives you a quick freshness test before your first deposit:

  • Limits and bonus amounts still printed in лв. or BGN mean the Bulgarian pages have not been touched since 2025, and the terms behind them may be just as old.
  • A wallet that converts every deposit from leva to euro, or back again, costs you on each transaction for no reason at all in 2026.

Our page on casinos with euro accounts covers what a proper euro wallet looks like.

Bulgarians in Germany, Spain, the UK and Turkey

If you live outside Bulgaria, the NRA is not your regulator. The rules follow your home address, not your passport, and they differ a lot between the countries where most Bulgarians have settled.

Country of residence Bulgarian community Online casino rules for residents
Germany About 410,000 registered Bulgarian citizens Online slots and poker under a German GGL licence
United Kingdom Unofficially close to 390,000 Licensed by the UK Gambling Commission
Spain Unofficially around 215,000 Licensed by the national regulator DGOJ
Turkey Unofficially 600,000 to 700,000 Online casino games are illegal

Turkey needs a plain word. Many Bulgarian citizens there are Bulgarian Turks who speak Turkish at home, and whatever language they read in, online casino play is not legal where they live. We do not recommend it, and our Turkish language casino guide explains the ban.

Asking for Help in Bulgarian Before It Matters

Support is where a Bulgarian version shows its real depth. Locally licensed operators answer in Bulgarian because their whole customer base expects it. International sites with a Bulgarian lobby usually do not have Bulgarian speaking agents on every shift, and many fall back on English or a translation tool once the question gets specific.

Try it before you deposit. Open the live chat, write in Bulgarian and ask how long a withdrawal takes and which documents verification needs. Natural Bulgarian with a straight answer is worth more than any welcome offer. An English reply tells you what a stuck payout will look like.

Bulgarian Cyrillic or Russian Text in Disguise

The most common shortcut we see is a site that already has Russian and treats Bulgarian as a quick edit of it. Both use Cyrillic, so at a glance the page looks fine. A Bulgarian reader notices the gap within a couple of lines.

Ы, Э and Ё have no business here

Those three letters belong to Russian and do not exist in the Bulgarian alphabet. If they show up in a bonus banner or a game description, the text was copied from the Russian version and only partly reworked. Real Bulgarian, on the other hand, uses Ъ as an everyday vowel, as in път, and attaches the definite article to the end of the noun, so you read бонусът and казиното rather than a bare noun.

Залог, теглене and other words that give it away

A bet in Bulgarian is a залог, and placing bets is залагане. In Russian a bet is a ставка, so that word appearing on a Bulgarian page is a warning sign. A withdrawal should read теглене rather than the Russian вывод, free spins should be безплатни завъртания, and the wagering rules usually come as изисквания за залагане.

The Short Answer for Each Kind of Bulgarian Player

Live in Bulgaria? Then the language is the easy part. Pick an operator licensed by the National Revenue Agency, use its self exclusion and limits if you need them, and ignore Bulgarian language sites without that licence, because the NRA is actively shutting them down. Our page on online casinos in Bulgaria covers the local market in more depth.

Live in Germany, Spain or the UK? Start with what your country of residence licenses, and treat a Bulgarian version as a bonus on top. In Turkey the honest answer is that there is no legal online casino to choose.

Wherever you are, the translation test stays the same: euro in the cashier, no Russian letters, real Bulgarian in the chat.

Bulgarian Language Casinos FAQ

Is it legal to play at an online casino in Bulgaria?

Yes, as long as the operator holds a licence from the National Revenue Agency, which has supervised gambling since the State Commission on Gambling was abolished in 2020. Sites without that licence get suspended and can be blocked by internet providers after a court order, whatever language they offer.

Does a Bulgarian translation mean a casino is licensed in Bulgaria?

No. Some international casinos add Bulgarian for players in other countries while holding no Bulgarian licence at all. Check which authority issued the licence named in the footer, and if you live in Bulgaria, make sure it is the National Revenue Agency before you register.

Should a Bulgarian language casino still use leva?

Not any more. Bulgaria adopted the euro on 1 January 2026 at a fixed rate of 1.95583 leva per euro, and the lev stopped being legal tender on 1 February 2026. Prices and limits still shown in BGN usually mean the Bulgarian pages are out of date.

How does self exclusion work for Bulgarian players?

Players in Bulgaria can register on the self exclusion list run by the National Revenue Agency, and every licensed operator must refuse them. Since 27 March 2025 the minimum period is one year. The list only binds Bulgarian licensed operators, so use the casino’s own tools and your bank’s blocks as well.

Can Bulgarians living in Germany or Spain use a Bulgarian version?

Yes, if the casino is licensed where you live and happens to offer Bulgarian. In Germany that means the GGL licence for online slots and poker, in Spain a DGOJ licence. Your Bulgarian passport does not matter here, your country of residence does.

How can I tell real Bulgarian from Russian copied text?

Look for the letters ы, э and ё, which Bulgarian does not use, and for Russian words such as ставка or вывод where Bulgarian would say залог and теглене. Real Bulgarian also puts the article on the end of nouns, for example бонусът.
